CD Review, Indie-Music.com, October 2005
By Tiffany Razzano
It’s hard to pinpoint the musical influences for New Jersey singer-songwriter Rebecca Gohn’s
first album Recollections, an album of beautiful and endearing piano ballads.

For a piano-based songwriter, the obvious influence to cite would be Tori Amos; however,
Amos cannot be heard anywhere in Gohn’s music, which is refreshing. Upon more intense
listening, one can hear a little bit of Tanya Donnelly and Shawn Colvin in her sweet but
emotive vocals and the influence of classical music. A stripped down Fiona Apple can also be
heard in her piano playing.

This album is clearly a bridge between her youth and her adulthood. Holden Caufield ran off
to New York City and had a nervous breakdown; Rebecca Gohn wrote an album of pretty
pop piano ballads which, despite their sadness, are incredibly soothing to the listener and,
likely, cathartic for her.

CD Review, Philadelphia Musician Resource Kitchen, July 2005
By Joey D
"Watch out vocalists, you have some stiff competition. Rebecca Gohn is by far the greatest
unsigned, local singer I've heard in years. Not only does Rebecca sing, but she plays
keyboards and writes all her own material. Rebecca brings to the table a fresh, soothing voice
seldom heard in music today, sounding more like she is Lisa Loeb's more talented sister than
a local/unsigned vocalist. A&R people where are you now?
This 12 track CD of slow tempo piano ballads is exactly what the title says it is. Recollections
of events that happen in life brought to you in thoughtful storytelling ways. 2 tracks that
stick out in my mind are the CD's opener, "I wonder where you are now?", which relays
images of the recollection of lost love. The third track, "Lottery", which asks the question 'Is
there a rhyme or reason for these things that I've seen, or is it just a Lottery?' I often wonder
whether there is fate or if things just happen in life randomly. This songs explores those exact
thoughts beautifully. OK, now I'm going to keep this short and sweet... go to www.
rebeccagohn.com, get a copy of this CD, and hear for yourself. You would be doing your
musical ears a disservice depriving them of the true amazement that is Rebecca Gohn."

"Rebecca Gohn's Recollections (Rebecca Gohn (USA) RGOHN5104, 2002) is a twelve track
collection of piano-accompanied ballads. Rebecca's sweet and tender voice carries the melody
atop piano accompaniment on each of the tracks. The album's opening number "I Wonder
Where You Are Now" is the album standout, with layers of Rebecca's vocals adding texture
especially in the heartfelt choruses. "It's A Tragedy" continues to explore the singer's range
and demonstrates power, especially in the vocalise that accompanies her piano playing.
"Lottery" is tremendously reminscent of a tune from the 1970s performed by Bread. Rebecca's
harmony vocal layers add a lovely texture.

"One More Second," "Is It All In Her Mind," and "A Dream" continues to explore the artist's
ability to weave stories into heartfelt ballads. "Silent Recollection" is delivered more
emotionally than several of the tracks that preceed it. "What Made Me Fall For You" is
presented at an even slower tempo and has required Rebecca to sing more powerfully and
with even more emotion. It must be wonderful to see performed live.

The CD continues with "Unspoken Words," another evocative ballad presented much in the
style of many of the album's tracks while "Count The Stars" is somewhat more upbeat. "I Still
Think Of You" moves on a bit further with Rebecca reaching for range and power above the
piano. The album concludes with the lovely "Miracles Can Be Like Dreams." The additional
reverb on her voice and keyboard washes allude to what could be done with additional
production in future releases.

This album is a nice introduction to Rebecca Gohn's sweet voice and lovely piano playing. We
are encouraged to hear that she is working on a new album and look forward to its future
release."

"Although local singer-songwriter Rebecca Gohn only began playing live a couple of years
ago, this was not evident as she captivated her audience with songs from her debut album
'Recollections' at St. Mary's Acoustic Coffeehouse in Haddon Heights on Saturday night,
November 8th."
"'Recollections' is a stripped-down recording, void of any fancy tricks or masking, that
showcases Gohn's talents as a solo performer....most of the album is simply Gohn and her
piano."

"When I first saw Rebecca Gohn, it was at the Point in Bryn Mawr, PA where I produce a
Singer Songwriter night once each week. We put between 25 and 35 performers on stage in
this popular event.
When Rebecca Gohn took the stage for the first time behind the keyboard, she silenced the
room with her performance. Rebecca draws her audience into her songs breathing emotion
into every word she sings. The combination of her strong vocal quality and delicate touch on
the piano make for a powerful, sensitive and very graceful show. Her lyrics are pointed and
presented with a great degree of sensitivity. She is a very fine songwriter and a captivating
performer. I never find myself looking away from the stage whenever she performs. Rebecca
continues to silence the venue each time she takes the stage.
Rebecca Gohn has an excellent feel for her music and exhibits a tremendous amount of
promise."
